Cox - Visiting Hours
The average prisoner receives just two visits while incarcerated. Yet studies have found a “strong and consistent positive relationship that exists between parole success and maintaining strong family ties while in prison.”
Studies show that when inmates maintain bonds with loved ones it reduces the odds of them returning after release. Yet the average inmate receives only two visits while incarcerated. In addition to this, private companies set high fees for calls that often lag, freeze, or cut out entirely. For this activation, I found our location - a jail in Fairfax County, VA and we created an experimental program allowing inmates to speak to loved ones every day with high-speed internet, and high-quality video, for free. The film follows three inmates and their families) as they discover and experience the hope and healing a regular connection can have on their lives.
